Automating Package Delivery & Pickup at a Public University
A digital parcel locker system recently installed at a university is designed to automate package delivery and pickup. The system, a bank of 86 lockers and two computer terminals used to access those lockers, is one of the first locker systems that uses computer technology to secure and track package deliveries at any public university. The digital parcel lockers allow students to pick up their packages at their convenience, rather than having to stand in line at the post office window during business hours. How the Digital Parcel Locker System Works
One of the computer terminals in the digital parcel locker system is used to enter a unique PIN that will open the corresponding locker. Students are notified a package is available in one of the 86 lockers via email. Security features are in place to prevent unauthorized access. Locker Benefits for University Students & Staff
With the digital parcel locker system, the building remains open 20 hours a day, so that students have the flexibility to pick up packages whenever they want. Students have responded positively to the new digital parcel lockers because of the increased availability for package pick up.
Also, university mail staff can now spend more time helping students mail packages and answering questions. The lockers have reduced the amount of manpower and space required for package delivery and storage.
