Keeping account of weapons is a critical safety task for keeping personnel safe. RFID weapons tracking systems can help maintain in-depth records of who and when weapons are being handled. Read on to learn how an RFID firearms armory can improve weapons organization.

Secure Exchanges of Weapons Ammunition & Equipment in Your Armoryissuing and returning weapons with the rfid armory management system

The RFID Armory Management System uses the latest in database software and RFID technology to enhance the security, accountability, and efficiency of your armory. The system is designed to track and inventory weapons, ammunition, and equipment as these items are issued, returned, and stored. The RFID Armory Management System maintains a complete chain of custody on each asset in the database from initial acquisition to final disposition as well as actively managing personnel access to those assets. RFID chips are stored discreetly within each asset and RFID antennas mounted at armory exchange windows to automatically track assets as they are issued and returned. The system is monitored by a touch screen monitor affixed to each exchange window and is optimized for fast, accurate, and secure exchanges.

Issuing Weapons with the RFID Armory Management System

When the armorer scans the card into the RFID Armory Management System, it displays the default post to which the individual is assigned as well as the weapons, ammunition, and equipment that he or she is required to carry to that post. The status window on the weapon RFID system, unique to personnel, will also inform the armorer of his or her arms and weapon certification statuses. It can tell whether users have any equipment and what post he or she will be going next.

Each post can be assigned different sets of required equipment, which is displayed in the window on the right-hand side of the screen. If a post requires a piece of equipment for which personnel is not certified, the system will notify the armorer and require an override authorization to proceed. The same notification will occur for staff who are not authorized to be armed. Once the armorer confirms the status of the personnel member, he can begin issuing weapons, ammunition, and equipment through the exchange window. The weapon RFID system antennas will automatically detect what equipment is being issued and confirm on the screen as well as with a wall-mounted light stack that will flash red, green, yellow when equipment passes through the window.weapons and ammo passed through the RFID exchange window a red, green, yellow light flashes

Returning Weapons with the RFID Armory Management System

Returning a weapon also begins with a scan of a CAC. The RFID Armory Management System will confirm that the transaction is a return and then will display all of the equipment that a personnel member currently has assigned to them. The RFID antennas will automatically track weapons, ammunition, and equipment as they are returned to the armory, providing the armorer with confirmation that all assigned items have been returned. As an added security measure, the system can also be configured to require electronic signatures for each issue or return.

Taking Inventory of Weapons with the RFID Armory Management System

taking inventory with the rfid armory management system for tracking weaponsA typical armory inventory requires approximately three-man hours to complete. Using the system’s portable RFID scanner, a typical inventory takes less than 10 minutes. The armorer waves the scanner over each storage rack and the scanner automatically detects all present weapons and equipment. When the armorer reconnects the scanner to the RFID Armory Management System’s software, the database updates with the current location of all inventoried equipment.
