The entire length of a carriage is scanned for anything causing obstruction using an infrared beam located 3/4-inches from the floor. If it is interrupted, it means someone or something has been detected on the floor of a closing aisle. When that happens, carriages are prevented from moving until whatever is blocking the aisle has been removed. A flashing indicator assists system users by pinpointing the location of aisle obstructions. It also reminds them to manually reset the mobile shelving with photo sweep safety system once the aisle has been cleared of obstructions. Carriages will also not move if the beam is blocked for any reason. If it is blocked and then cleared when the carriages aren’t moving, the photo sweep will reset automatically. The capability to do so, allows for resetting during normal use of an aisle to be omitted.
