Improved Rehab Therapy Storage
A hospital in Washington recently constructed a new therapy department and were dedicated to making the most of their space. Previously, their rehab storage consisted of three different rooms for wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and walkers. The rooms were cluttered, and stored items took up so much floor space that someone could barely open the door to the room, let alone walk into it to find the equipment they needed. Jim Deller of Southwest Solutions Group® got together with hospital staff to design a customized rehab therapy storage system for storing and organizing their materials in less space. Storage for Wheelchairs, Crutches, & More
First, SSG went in to clean up the mess and de-clutter the room. A customized shelving system was designed that would allow them to store walkers and wheelchairs in the same unit. Wheelchairs are stored on the bottom so they can be rolled out easily, and walkers are stored on the top. Since the walkers needed to be stored upright, the shelving was uniquely designed with gold club bag dividers that would hold the walkers in place. Additional items like binders and boxes can also be stored on the shelves.
A slatwall was also designed and installed with hanging accessories for storing crutches and canes as well as other items such as bags and backpacks. With the slatwall, crutches and canes can be hung from the wall instead of taking up valuable floor space. This new rehab therapy storage system has offered the department multiple benefits:
- Safety is increased because items are organized and stored neatly, preventing trips and falls
- Staff can quickly and easily find what they need to get back to their patients faster, boosting efficiency and patient satisfaction
- Expensive wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and walkers are stored properly and not in the floor, preventing damage
- It's easy for staff to visually take quick inventory of the items they have
- Items are stored neatly, giving the rehab storage room a professional appearance
