Buffer Storage & Assembly for Semi-Finished Products
The company needed an optimized buffer storage solution to handle incoming goods, semi-finished products, and multi-chip module assembly while ensuring the quality of the entire process. Having no picking errors was extremely important, as no goods were returned to the picking location to guarantee cleanliness. Before the automated buffer storage modules, all incoming components were stored on traditional shelving and pallet racks. Their warehouse was also running out of space for their growing storage capacity.
The automated buffer storage modules produced increased control of the process while enhancing performance and productivity in less space than static storage. Existing and incoming components are stored in four high-speed vertical lift modules (VLMs), which are strategically located between the warehouse and assembly area. Each shuttle is equipped with double access openings to clearly separate the picking and putting process. The VLM screens provide the pick location on the shuttles and the put location on the carts, which increases efficiency and reduces errors. Since the VLMs are built vertically, the warehouse is also able to utilize the full height of the ceiling to provide substantial space savings. The warehouse was also able to integrate their existing ERP system with the VLMs, and the enclosed system and climate control made the solution appropriate for clean rooms.
