Tool cages, also known as tool cribs, are secure storage areas that store tools, equipment and other valuable assets. These cages are commonly found in industrial settings such as factories, warehouses and construction sites, where the loss or theft of tools can be a significant problem. By investing in a high-quality tool crib cage, companies can achieve better inventory management, improve efficiency, reduce costs and promote workplace safety.

Benefits of Tool Cages

Security

Wire Partition Tool CagesThe primary purpose of a tool crib is to provide secure storage space for valuable tools and equipment. By keeping these items locked up and out of reach, tool cages help prevent theft, damage, and loss. Instead, employees must sign out the tools they need at the tool crib, promoting accountability. The tool cages also ensure proper storage of tools and equipment, reducing the risk of damage.

Efficiency

Tool cages improve efficiency by centralizing tool storage and thus reducing the amount of time workers spend searching for tools. With a tool crib, you can ensure that the right tools and supplies are available for the workers who need them to minimize delays in your operations. And by reducing the risk of lost or damaged tools, tool cribs save time and money.

Workplace Safety

Tool cages can help improve workplace safety by preventing workers from using damaged or unsafe tools. All tools and equipment will be properly stored in the tool crib rather than potentially lying around the work area where they could pose a safety hazard. And tools will be accessible to authorized users only, reducing the risk of an unauthorized user misusing a tool and suffering injury.

Customization

Tool cages come in a variety of sizes and shapes, depending on the specific needs of your facility. Constructed from modular panels, the cages are built to meet your specifications. Tool cage panels are made of woven wire mesh, welded wire panels, sheet metal, or polycarbonate. The storage cages are customizable with features such as shelves, cabinets, locking doors, and a service window.

Quick Installation

tool cageTool cages install quickly and easily, with minimal disruption to your facility. The angle frame design gives installers easy access to the hardware, and the modular panels bolt together with basic tools. Wire mesh panels allow light, HVAC, and fire suppression systems to circulate, eliminating the need for costly building modifications. Stock tool cage panels ship across the US in 48 hours, so you can begin reaping the benefits of your new tool crib as quickly as possible.

Tool Cage Features & Specifications

When selecting a tool crib cage, there are several factors to consider. The cage should be large enough to accommodate all the tools and equipment that need to be stored but not so large that it takes up too much space. The materials used to construct the cage should be durable enough for long-lasting security. Additionally, the cage should have a locking mechanism that is secure and easy to use. These factors and other features are discussed below.

Materials

tool cribStandard tool cage panels are made of 2” x 1” woven wire panels and bolts together with standard 3/8″ mounting hardware. Other options include welded wire panels, expanded metal panels, clear polycarbonate, and sheet metal. Heavy-duty options are available.

Tool Cage Panels

The modular tool crib fencing panels are fully framed and bolted together without special tools or equipment. The panels are available in twenty standard-size panels, measuring 4′ or 5′ high and widths from 1′ to 10′. The panels stack two or more high to achieve a variety of heights from 8′ to 60′ high. Custom wire partition panels are also available.

In terms of configurations, tool cages can be two-sided, three-sided, or four-sided, depending on your facility’s needs. They can also include a ceiling; ceiling panels are interchangeable with wall panels.

Doors

Hinged doors can include a service window so personnel don’t have to enter the tool crib to check out a tool. Sliding doors are the best option for equipment cages requiring fork truck access.

Locking Options

Manual and electronic locking options are available for tool cages. Lock options include key locks, proximity readers, card readers, and keypads. Sliding doors come with a patented tamper-resistant latch mechanism.

Shelving & Cabinets

Choose from a wide variety of shelving and cabinets to house tools and equipment inside your tool cage. For example, modular drawer cabinets are a highly customizable option that is great for storing smaller tools and supplies. Modular drawers can also be integrated into shelving units for improved organization and versatile storage. Visit our online store to see our industrial storage products.

“The team at Southwest Solutions were nothing short of fantastic. First meeting with Craig, I received a customized design, in person, based on my office needs while still maintaining an efficient layout and being cost effective. Craig explained everything clearly, allowing me to understand that as modular mill-work, I would be able to move it if I ever changed offices, but without the added sales pressure to immediately make a decision. Once I had decided, I worked with Chris who assisted in picking out the finishes and scheduling the delivery and installation. The professionalism of Craig and Chris spoke volumes and I would highly recommend anyone looking to transform or fit-out an office to contact Southwest Solutions.”
