Horizontal Carousels vs. Vertical Carousels
The difference between vertical carousels and horizontal carousels is straightforward. Both carousels are an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS). The difference is how the machines operate. The vertical carousel takes advantage of unused overhead or vertical space. They can stand 12’ to 60’ tall and rotate the storage shelf vertically to an ergonomic waist-high counter for picking. The horizontal carousels rotate horizontally and are used with low ceilings. Vertical carousels are a series of powered shelves or bins that rotate in a vertical loop bringing parts to a pre-designated picking point for the operator to store or retrieve parts.
