VLMs, Carousels, & Modular Racks for Warehouses

VLMs (vertical lift modules) provide fast access to materials, which are stored in an enclosed series of trays for a compact footprint. All the operator needs to do is select the desired item (for example, a certain part) from the touchscreen, and the VLM will automatically bring the tray with the item on it to the operator at a waist-high work counter. Pick-to-light technology directs the operators to the exact item they need to pick from the tray to increase accuracy. Vertical carousels are also enclosed storage systems with a series of vertically rotating trays. The operator pushes a button on the control pad to rotate the trays into position where they can retrieve the desired item. They are ideal for storing small to medium-sized items and can be configured with bins or shelves. Modular racks are automated pallet racking solutions that are based on high density shelving. Instead of having multiple aisles open at all times, the modular racks only need one or two movable aisles based on your activity levels. You may not have thought about how much space your static aisles are using, but static pallet racks can take up to 60% of your static storage space. This allows you to compact the aisles that aren’t in use and can be accessed when and where they’re needed. To access an aisle, the user simply pushes a button that moves the aisle automatically.
