Improving Package Management & Saving Space

When a university’s mail system needed to move, they were forced to re-think their much smaller space (1,989 square feet) than the previous 12,000 square foot mail center. Instead of wasting space, they took the opportunity to improve mail services and redesign the mailroom’s work flow and footprint.

By installing new technology and equipment, the university implemented a benchmarking process to improve their efficiency and better keep track of delivered packages and mail for the school’s 5,500 students.

To save space, the university installed a high density mail system with bar-coded student indexes and expandable mail slots, which reduced their mail footprint from 10,000 to just 105 square feet. Scanning technology was also added to the system, allowing messages to be sent to students as soon as their package arrives and is scanned.

The new mail center is incredibly efficient and easy to use despite the smaller space. Self-service kiosks also allow students to instantly claim their mail and parcels, use mailing services, buy stamps, order services, and purchase school supplies.
