Prior to its creation, soldiers at the facility used cardboard containers placed on skids that got stored on pallet racking. This approach was not desired and created an opportunity for improvement since the containers provided little protection for the chutes that were too weak to stack and did not offer adequate capacity. The pallet racking configuration also wasted space.
Wanting a better solution, the facility’s CW-2 (Chief Warrant Officer) and SSG (Staff Sergeant) got put in touch with the local storage representative through a parachute infantry regiment located at another base in the area. The local representative carried out an on-site assessment and helped design a possible substitute to accommodate parachutes circulating throughout the network as well as any stored within the immediate area.
Stackable padlocked parachute container storage stores more in same footprint
It would take using 48 large chute containers that stack three high and four sections of adjustable cantilever racks to create the right stackable padlocked parachute container storage solution. Placing the containers at a height that measures three units high while removing the pallet racking boosted the number of chutes stored in the same footprint by 35 percent. Each includes a padlock, which provides an extra layer of physical security to discourage tampering, theft or misplacement during transit.

Besides having padlock hasps and a forklift base, the stackable padlocked parachute container storage also includes heavy-duty perforated panels that fold down to provide easy access to essential equipment. The punctured-hole panel design also allows light and air to come through, which ensures enhanced chute visibility and ventilation. Having factory-installed number plates on each container also makes inventory assessments, pack dates and parachute tracking processes easier.
