High density mobile wall system used to create flexible work space
Shelving capabilities have been stretched well beyond their original capacity to save space for greater storage efficiency and expanded to new heights. And, it was all done for the good of global prosperity. It took forward thinking, expertise and the adaptability of movable storage shelving to bring one company’s specific vision to life. Or, to be more precise, a high density mobile wall carriage rail system was used to create flexible work space.
The project was no small feat by any means. Those involved were counting on it to not only boost productivity, but also serve as a platform for linking data, networks and machines for the good of remaking industry. A goal of this size needed to be rooted somewhere, if it had any chance of flourishing. A 14,000 square-foot space was built to function as a design center/think tank within company headquarters as a result. It was to be a place that not only facilitated communication and collaboration, but encouraged the exchange of ideas between teams and customers for the sake innovation. A briefing theater to kick off new projects, mobile conference area with movable walls to create custom-sized rooms, as well as a 360-degree virtual environment were to be housed there. The inner workings of a high density mobile wall carriage rail system used to create flexible work space are explained. (Watch video)
Designing high density mobile wall carriage rail system
Crafting the high density mobile carriage rail system used to create flexible work space was an intricate process and required attention to detail. A total of eight custom manual carriages, each measuring 24-inches wide by 18-feet long were positioned on a set of four individual 118-foot L-rail with roller guides mounted onto a concrete slab. Locking plates, set up in five-foot increments, were used to facilitate carriage movement. Each featured a key lock at both ends to keep the wall in place. Its wall base was made from an 800-pound steel structure, which was mounted to the high density mobile wall carriage rail system. Several design and technological elements were easily accommodated for and implemented into the walls themselves. These included a full white board with digital videoconferencing camera, an HD flat touchscreen and an iPad, which managed climate, lighting, sounds and video for each commerce room “pod.” A multi-sectioned floating glass wall with operating doors was also designed. It hangs on a track from an unistrut. By allowing it to be positioned along the 81-foot length of the conference rooms or tucking it behind the first and last carriage on each end, privacy and added soundproofing of the pods is firmly established.
