In an era where data reigns supreme and digital infrastructure is the lifeblood of businesses, data centers serve as the guardians of our information-driven society. Thus, data centers need to have unparalleled security.

Data center cages and colocation cages provide physical security and segregation within a data center environment. These fortified enclosures play a vital role in safeguarding the critical IT infrastructure of an organization, providing a secure and controlled environment for their data and equipment.

This article will discuss the benefits and features of data center cages and more information on the product and colocation cages. To see more office storage solutions, visit our market page.

Benefits of Data Center Cages

Physical Security

data center cagesData center and colocation cages provide additional physical security for sensitive and critical infrastructure. By enclosing the servers and equipment within a cage, unauthorized access is restricted, reducing the risk of theft, tampering, or unauthorized modifications. Only authorized personnel with the necessary permissions and credentials can enter the cage, ensuring only designated individuals can interact with the equipment.

The wire mesh cages are highly durable but still provide ventilation, allowing free circulation of light, air conditioning, and fire suppression systems. All hardware is on the inside of the enclosure to prevent tampering, and a variety of locking mechanisms are available to secure the server cages.

Confidentiality and Compliance

Colocation cages offer privacy and confidentiality by separating different clients’ or organizations’ equipment and infrastructure within the data center. Each client’s cage is a dedicated space, ensuring their data and operations are isolated from other tenants and enhancing data security.

Data center server cages also contribute to compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Cages’ defined boundaries and access control mechanisms make monitoring and auditing physical access to the enclosed infrastructure easier, aiding in compliance documentation and demonstrating adherence to security protocols.

Ease of Installation

data center server cagesData center cages are constructed from modular wire mesh panels that bolt together easily. The panels are cut to size before shipping, which results in a cleaner installation with no cutting or grinding required.

All necessary hardware is included with the data center cage fencing. Plus, the angle frame design speeds up the process by giving the installer clear access to the hardware. The server cages are quick and easy to install with minimal disruption to your facility.

Customization and Scalability

Data center cages can be customized and tailored to specific client requirements. They can accommodate different sizes, configurations, and security needs. Server cages can provide side-by-side server rack storage, allowing for scalability as businesses grow and their infrastructure requirements change over time. Clients can expand or modify their cages to align with evolving needs without affecting the overall data center layout.

What are Data Center Cages?

data center cageData center cages are used to create enclosed areas within a larger data center facility. These cages are constructed using durable wire mesh and are typically floor-to-ceiling enclosures for housing servers, networking equipment, and other critical infrastructure. They are designed to provide physical separation and isolation for specific organizations or tenants within the data center.

Data center cages offer exclusive access and can be customized to meet specific needs, including layout, security measures, and infrastructure requirements. They provide a controlled and dedicated space for organizations to house their IT infrastructure, ensuring privacy, security, and flexibility within the shared data center environment.

Data center cages also incorporate access control mechanisms to restrict entry. This can include keyed locks, electronic access control systems, keypad locks, or other security measures to restrict the enclosure to authorized personnel. Visit our online store to see our office storage products.

What are Colocation Cages?

wire mesh cagesA colocation cage is a specific type of data center cage that is leased to organizations for colocation hosting. In colocation, organizations rent space within a data center to house their servers, networking equipment, and other IT infrastructure.

Colocation cages provide a private and secure environment within the data center facility for a single tenant. These cages are typically designed to accommodate the specific needs of the colocation customer, offering a dedicated space with enhanced security, control, and customization options.

Data Center Cage Features

Data center cages are constructed from modular panels of sturdy wire mesh. Partition panel options include:

  • 2″ x 1″ 10-gauge woven mesh (standard)
  • ½” square 12-gauge woven mesh
  • ¾” square 10-gauge woven mesh
  • Alternatives include welded mesh, expanded metal, sheet metal, and clear polycarbonate

The panels are available in twenty standard sizes, with heights of four or five feet and widths of one to ten feet in one-foot increments. The standard-size panels work in both ceilings and walls and can be stacked to reach the desired height. The panels bolt to a 2″ square 14-gauge steel tube post with 3/8″ mounting hardware, the heaviest in the industry. For extra stability, a welded base plate with floor anchors for the posts is available.

Server cages are available with hinged, double-hinged, sliding, or vertical rise doors. The sliding doors come with a patented tamper-resistant latch mechanism.

More access control features and options for the data center cages include:

  • Key locks
  • Keypad locks
  • Card readers
  • Fingerprint scanners
  • Self-closing doors
  • Emergency exit push bars
  • Custom locks available

“The team at Southwest Solutions were nothing short of fantastic. First meeting with Craig, I received a customized design, in person, based on my office needs while still maintaining an efficient layout and being cost effective. Craig explained everything clearly, allowing me to understand that as modular mill-work, I would be able to move it if I ever changed offices, but without the added sales pressure to immediately make a decision. Once I had decided, I worked with Chris who assisted in picking out the finishes and scheduling the delivery and installation. The professionalism of Craig and Chris spoke volumes and I would highly recommend anyone looking to transform or fit-out an office to contact Southwest Solutions.”
