How the Tempest Automated Washer System Works
The Tempest Automated Washer contains baskets fitted with 24 hydro jet ports for cleaning cannulated surgical instruments. The tubes are attached to the instruments and then attached to the ports within the basket. Additional non-cannulated instruments can also be loaded in the baskets for cleaning. Once the baskets are loaded, the instruments are ready for cleaning.
To start the cleaning process, simply press the start button. As the baskets are lowered the washer hood automatically closes and the cleaning cycle begins. The cleaning baskets are lowered into a tank filled with 120 degree enzymatic water cleaning solution. The ultrasonic transducers are automatically turned on to break up the surface bioburden. Concurrently, the interior of the surgical instruments are seeded with the same enzymatic solution. The solution steeps with the interior of the lumen for 3 minutes, allowing the solution to loosen and eat away any the bioburden microbial particles. After steeping the hydro jets start to scrub the inside of the instruments with scrubbing bubbles; this process is repeated twice more to ensure all the bacteria is removed.
The tank is drained to remove the discarded bioburden materials. Once the solution is drained, the surgical instruments are rinsed externally and internally with 190 degree water for 2 minutes to achieve thermal disinfection. After the thermal rinse, the instruments are sprayed with a cool ozonated water rinse. Ozone is the world’s most effective bacteria killer and is 3,000 times more effective than chlorine.
When the final rinse is complete, the lid opens automatically. And the carriage and baskets rise for removal. Your surgical instruments have now been cleaned beyond AMII Standards and are ready for sterilization.
