military food & dining supply storage

mechanical assist compact shelving stores military food & dining suppliesA United States military base was seeing an increase in the number of people being served in their dining facility, causing a growth in the number of food and supplies the dining hall needed to provide and store. However, the base had limited storage space and additional supplies, and a facility expansion was out of the question. The base decided on mechanical-assist compact shelving to organize and store military food and dining supplies efficiently in their already limited space. Click here to learn more about high density mobile shelving.

A military base is surprisingly similar to a college campus or even a small city. Service members and personnel who live and work on the base have all the amenities they need at their fingertips. This also means that military bases store much, much more than weapons and tactical gear. Though mechanical-assist compact shelving is often used in storing weapons and tactical gear as well, the possibilities for the shelving units is virtually endless, as demonstrated here.

Not only did the base need a condensed storage solution that stores military food and supplies, but the solution needed the ability to close and lock to secure stored materials due to the fact that the dining area was open and unsupervised many times during the day. The dining hall also required that the storage system have a solution to store both food supplies, such as canned goods and seasonings, as well as carbon dioxide containers.mechanical-assist military compact shelving racks store dining supplies & CO2 cans

With these requirements, a mechanical-assist compact shelving system using 4-post shelving was developed. The ability to move the carriages allowed the dining facility to be able to mop and clean the area in and around the system easily, allowing them to enforce their stringent cleanliness standards.

Bin dividers were used on a portion of the 4-post shelving for storage of carbon dioxide containers. The rest of the system utilized wire shelving. High Pressure Laminate (HPL) face panels were used on the front half of the mechanical-assist compact shelving system. The single-access system was located against the wall so face panels were only necessary on one side. The full height panels allowed the aisles to be labeled and closed.

For security, a locking tambour door was installed on the right end of the system for items not in use. Gravity-fed flow racks were used on the left end of the storage system for canned goods. The entire system was also priced via a GSA contract for added convenience.
