The enclosure material can be essential when selecting an enclosure for use in an industry where cleanliness is critical, such as food, pharmaceutical, or oil and gas. Stainless steel is a widely popular enclosure material option in these industries.
Stainless steel enclosures protect against rust and corrosion due to chemicals and moisture. Also, stainless is nonporous, making it easy to clean and maintain. Many hospitals and healthcare facilities utilize stainless steel enclosures for this very reason. In addition to the medical community, food service industries, pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, clean rooms, places exposed to saltwater and chemicals, and outside electrical cabinets governed by NEMA, cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices and the FDA use stainless steel enclosures.
These cabinets come in various standard sizes and custom configurations, including freestanding and wall-mounted with or without locking doors, visible windows, water-resistant gaskets, and punched holes for ventilation, conduit, and mounting purposes.
Enclosures come in a variety of qualities of stainless, including 201, 304, and 316 stainless steel, all used for different applications. We make a host of standard and custom-designed cabinets made to your unique specifications.
Some standard stainless steel enclosures are:
Utility connection enclosures
Water connection enclosures

Let’s explore the benefits that stainless steel offers. Then, we’ll discuss why stainless steel is such a useful material for enclosures, why it’s often the first choice for our customers, and the stainless-steel enclosures Southwest Solutions offers.
Stainless Steel is low Maintenance
Stainless steel is a durable material and low maintenance. It’s also effortless to clean with most standard commercial cleaning products. An occasional round of stainless-steel polish will help keep the steel performing at its optimal level.
Stainless Steel has excellent tolerance for high and low temperatures
Stainless steel has high material integrity and maintains this integrity at very high and low temperatures. While temperature tolerances vary between stainless steel varieties, what does not wavier is its ability to withstand extremes.
Stainless Steel is corrosion resistant
Stainless steel has a high resistance to rust and corrosion. That’s because it includes several elements not present in standard carbon steel. These include chromium, molybdenum, and nickel. When these elements get added to steel during the forging process, this process produces steel with much better corrosion resistance than carbon steel. When stainless steel encounters oxidation, such as salt or water, the chromium in the steel forms a layer of chromium oxide on the structure’s surface, offering protection from further corrosion.
