Medical supply storage is an important aspect of healthcare operations, ensuring that essential equipment and supplies are readily available when needed. There are several options for storing medical supplies, each with its benefits and limitations. Some medical supply storage solutions include high-density storage, medical vending machines, hospital two-bin Kanban systems, par inventory systems, and storage carousels.

High-Density Medical Supply Storage

High-density storage is a space-saving solution that allows hospitals and other healthcare facilities to store large quantities of supplies in a small area. High-Density shelving and racks are entirely customizable to maximize your unique storage space. High-density storage systems can be motorized or manual, depending on your needs.

Medical Vending Machines

Medical vending machines are a convenient way to dispense supplies on demand. These machines hold a wide range of medical supplies, such as gloves, masks, and gauze, and are accessed by authorized personnel using a keycard or other secure method. Medical vending machines are beneficial in areas where supplies are frequently used, such as operating rooms and emergency departments.

Hospital Two-Bin Kanban Systems

Hospital two-bin kanban systems are a type of inventory management system that helps healthcare facilities keep track of their supplies and ensure that supplies are restocked when needed. The storage system contains two bins for storing supplies. When the supplies in the first bin are used, a notification is sent to the Materials Management Department to refill the supplies. Meanwhile, nurses can access the supplies in the second bin.

Par Inventory Systems

Par inventory systems are another method for managing medical supplies. Each supply type in a par inventory system is assigned a specific quantity, known as the “par level,” which is the minimum necessary to meet the facility’s needs. When the quantity of a particular supply falls below par level, a notification is sent to the Materials Management Department to restock the supplies. This system helps ensure that essential supplies are always available while minimizing waste and excess inventory.

Medical Supply Storage Carousels

Storage carousels are automated storage and retrieval systems that store medical supplies. These systems use a series of shelves that rotate on tracks to bring the requested items to an ergonomic access counter for retrieval. Storage carousels can be customized to meet each facility’s specific needs and can be used to store a wide range of medical supplies.

Healthcare Testimonials

parkland hospital

“Southwest Solutions Group assisted us in the setup of equipment and services for our offsite medical record warehouse housing over one million charts. They have moved over 330,000 records from the main hospital to the medical record warehouse in a weekend time period, and converted thousands of charts for us. They have provided us a new chart tracking system, labeling system, and file conversion services over a multi-month process. Their IT group was able to modify our existing records management software to “talk” to our main software program so we could print color coded labels for our medical record charts. In addition, they have provided many other services to Parkland hospital including file shelving, hospital storage equipment needs, and software support. Southwest Solutions Group does exceptional work.”

“Thank you for your donation! I wanted to let you know that we ordered a donor sign for our storage room. The sign will be displayed outside the storage room located near the main kitchen/dining room. This should give you some good exposure!”
