Three Plea Guilty to Violating HIPAA Privacy Laws

THREE PLEA GUILTY TO VIOLATION OF HIPAA LAW

 

Little Rock--July 20, 2009-- Little Rock - Two women and a doctor plead guilty to improperly viewing medical files under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The three could face a maximum of a year in federal prison and a $50,000 fine each.  All three admitted to accessing a patient's files out of curiosity after watching a news report on television about KATV's Anne Pressly.  All three stated that they had received HIPAA training.
