Effective January E-Filing is Mandatory for Certain Texas Courts
Mandatory e-filing in civil cases throughout district courts, statutory county courts, constitutional county courts and statutory probate courts is being implemented beginning January 1, 2014 to July 1, 2016 (see Docket #12-9208 mandatory e-filing deadlines by county).
Harris County Takes the Lead in Converting to Electronic Filing
Chris Daniel, Harris County District Clerk and an electronic filing pioneer for courts everywhere, estimates that electronic filings will save about $1.1 million in 2014 (read article) by saving money on paper, printing, storage costs, and time. While Mr. Daniel has a clear vision for Harris County, many other county courts may be hesitant regarding how they will move forward with the e-filing mandate. Rumor has it some counties are planning on receiving documents electronically and then printing them and placing the documents in the paper files, defeating the intent of Docket #12-9208 mandate.
